From 12 to 14 November, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB), together with UCW Up-Chinese Wine, once again showcased the brilliance of China’s Marselan at ProWine Shanghai 2025. CMB is committed to bringing this promising grape variety – one that best expresses Chinese terroir – to the global stage it deserves.

A Curated Selection Highlighting the Diversity of Chinese Marselan

At booth W4B78-16, CMB presented a dedicated free-tasting zone featuring award-winning Marselan wines from recent CMB competitions. Nearly 30 selections from Ningxia, Xinjiang, Hebei, Shandong and beyond came together – ranging from classic reserve bottlings to innovative creations from emerging wineries – collectively illustrating the remarkable quality and boundless potential of Chinese Marselan.

The booth drew strong attention throughout the exhibition. Industry professionals, media, and wine lovers gathered to explore the distinctive expressions of Marselan from different Chinese regions.

A Terroir Map of China: Diverse Expressions Across Regions

  • Ningxia Marselan tends to show deep color, concentrated aromas, fresh fruit profiles, refined tannins, and notable aging potential.
  • Xinjiang, with abundant sunshine and large diurnal temperature variation, produces Marselan with riper fruit, fuller body, and plush texture.
  • Hebei and Shandong, located in coastal or northern climates, offer a lighter, fresher take, with floral, herbal, and red-fruit notes highlighting an elegant and vibrant style.

This stylistic diversity – shaped by China’s vast and varied terroirs – is one of Marselan’s most charming qualities. From north to south, east to west, each bottle tells the story of its place of origin.

All wines showcased were award-winning entries from recent CMB competitions, collectively sketching a refined portrait of “Chinese terroir.”

An International Stage Elevating Chinese Wines

As one of the world’s most influential wine competitions, CMB has long been committed to advancing outstanding wine regions and distinctive grape varieties. In recent years, CMB has not only created dedicated Marselan zones at major international exhibitions, but also collaborated with UCW to present Chinese Marselan at ProWine Shanghai for three consecutive years.

Through CMB’s global network of judges and its rigorous evaluation standards, Marselan has gained an increasingly visible international profile. More and more Chinese Marselan wines are winning Grand Gold and Gold Medals at CMB events – making “Chinese Marselan” an emerging lens through which global professionals understand China’s winemaking strengths.

CMB provides award-winning wineries with free display opportunities throughout the year, linking competitions with exhibitions to support commercial outreach. From accolades to market exposure, from blind tasting venue to consumer encounters, CMB helps Chinese producers make steady and meaningful steps onto the world stage.

Looking ahead, CMB will continue leveraging professional judging and global resources to build Marselan into a world-recognized symbol of Chinese wine – helping the voice of Chinese terroir resonate internationally.

Marselan Selection by CMB Returns in 2026

Showcasing the Essence of Oriental Terroir

The 3rd Marselan Selection by CMB will take place in 2026. As CMB’s dedicated international competition for a single grape variety, this event focuses on Marselan – an international hybrid that has found exceptional expression on Chinese soil. The competition aims to select and promote outstanding Marselan wines from around the world through professional, unbiased evaluation.

The event not only offers a global stage for Chinese Marselan, but also opens a window for international consumers and trade professionals to understand Chinese terroir in depth and is expected to further spotlight top Chinese producers and reveal new styles and benchmarks for Marselan globally.

The competition will continue to follow CMB’s international standards: blind tasting, impartial scoring, and participation from experts and media across the world. Awards include Grand Gold, Gold, and Silver Medals, with winners capped at no more than 28% of total entries, and Grand Gold medals strictly limited to under 1.5%.

Since the inaugural edition held in Ningxia in 2023, Marselan Selection by CMB has become a key platform for showcasing Marselan’s global potential and exchanging insights. The first two editions demonstrated both the rapid rise of China’s Marselan quality and its distinctive stylistic identity.

Marselan Selection by CMB in 2026 will further reinforce China’s position as the world’s core region for Marselan production, helping more exceptional Chinese wineries enter the global spotlight and strengthening international recognition of “Chinese flavour.”

From competition judging to global promotion, CMB continues to stand alongside Chinese wineries, supporting their journey onto the world stage. In 2026, let us once again gather to witness the next bright chapter of Chinese Marselan.
